I assumed Signal 100 was the front-runner to be chosen as the worst film of the year, but surprise surprise, there will always be something far worse. This film is the worst one by far I’ve seen in the last five years.
『 シグナル100 』が国内クソ映画オブ・ザ・イヤー候補かと思っていたが、それをさらに上回る駄作がもうすでにあったとは驚きである。本作は、過去5年にJovianが鑑賞した作品の中でも群を抜いて駄作である。
Plot Summaries
Ryoichi – played by Ryosuke Yamada – is a college student who is going after the person called Kioku-ya, The Memory Eraser. His girlfriend’s memory of Ryoich was erased, and since then, he has been seeking clues of The Memory Eraser with the aim of restoring her lost memory…

大学生の遼一（山田涼介）は記憶屋を追っている。恋人の記憶から、遼一に関するものが消されてしまったのだ。以来、彼女の失われた記憶を取り戻そうと遼一は記憶屋に関する手がかりを探し求めるが・・・

残念ながら無い。それが、この映画の酷さを証明していると言えるだろう。
Negatives
First of all, what’s the heck is with lawyers and medical doctors in this movie’s world? Don’t they know a jack shit about what the duty of confidentiality is all about? It’s OK to give away a little bit of information, because we are all human and to err is human. Nobody is impeccable. With that being said, there is absolutely no need to write down on the whiteboard every F-ing detail of the victims of the criminal cases. There is something wrong with the doctor’s head, too. What’s the point of allowing a girl’s boyfriend to be right there while asking her some serious questions? A doctor should have no problem anticipating a flashback especially when dealing with a patient who could be deeply traumatized. Why no female doctors? Why not allowing her to lie down during the medical interview? The stupid and senseless boyfriend should know better.
The problem with this film is that the true identity of The Memory Eraser is so blatantly obvious that avid movie-goers will find out who it is only about 15 minutes into the film. Nevertheless, no characters picked up on the clue that leads to The Memory Eraser until much later, which I didn’t like at all. All you have to do is connect the dots, and no one fucking does it. Why?
I am also unhappy with the sequence where Ryoichi makes his sincere apology for what he thought was a terrible mistake. However, they say that kidnapping was rampant in the area in those days. Nonetheless, the adults in the area allowed their 5 – 6 year-old children to go outside AT NIGHT, ON THEIR OWN, so that they could go see a fireworks event. WTF? Heck, it wasn’t Ryoichi’s fault. It was the adults and the police who were to blame. And the ex-cop old man just saying to Ryoich, “It has fallen under the statute of limitations.” is simply unthinkable and unacceptable. This man really has dementia. If not, he should have turned in his badge waaaaay before his retirement.
Ryoich’s odyssey for The Memory Eraser culminates at the lowest of the low point. It was such an anti-climactic ending sequence. With this, the director and the screenwriter didn’t seem to give much thought to the impact of what happens at the end on the people around the main characters. I also found it extremely difficult to relate to any of the characters, and almost all of the things they did in the course of this entire story didn’t come across as compelling or meaningful. I could not help but get up from the seat and leave the theater as soon as the ending credit began to roll.
I could keep talking forever, but I want to wrap all this up by saying that I have no idea why this film exists.
ネガティブ・サイド
まず、この物語世界における医師や弁護士の職業倫理はどうなっているのか。守秘義務という概念が存在しない世界なのか。いや、多少の秘密をばらすのは人間のやることだから許容できる。だが、どこの誰がどんな事件でどんな被害を受けたのか、それを事細かくホワイトボードにでかでかと記しておく必要が一体どこにあるのか。医師も頭がどうかしている。心因性の記憶障害だとしても、いやしくも脳外科医であるならば女性医師に変わるか、あるいはフラッシュバックを予期してベッドに寝かせて問診するだろう。いや、そもそもボーイフレンドは同席させないだろう。いくら親密とはいえ、親や保護者ではないのだ。
また記憶屋の正体があまりにも簡単に分かってしまうにも問題である。ちょっと映画を見慣れた人であれば、開始15分で記憶屋が誰であるかが分かってしまうだろう。にもかかわらず、登場人物の誰も記憶屋につながるヒントに物語後半まで気が付かないということが不満である。点と点をつなげば記憶屋の正体は自ずから明らかなのに、何故そうしない？
主人公の遼一が過去の自分の過ちを詫びるシークエンスにも納得がいかない。誘拐事件が地域で頻発している。にもかかわらず当時の大人たちは未就学児童の集団を夜に外出させ、花火大会に行かせた。悪いのは遼一ではなく、大人たちであり、注意喚起を怠った警察である。遼一の謝罪を「時効だ」と言って流してしまう元・警察官の爺さんは、本物の認知症である。さもなければ、無責任極まりない警察官である。
主人公の遼一の記憶屋を求める旅の終着点、その結末。そのことが周囲にもたらす影響について何らの考察もされていないように思える。はっきり言って、登場人物の誰にも感情移入できないし、彼ら彼女らの行動原理がこれっぽっちも理解できない。エンドロールが始まって、すぐに席を立ってしまった。
このままいくらでも酷評を続けていくこともできるが、きりがないので以下をもって結論とする。Jovianは何故この映画が存在できるのかが分からない。
Recap
This is a complete disaster. Hardly anything in this film makes sense, and I was fed and fed and fed with so much meaningless information till the end. I say this film is a steaming load of bullshit. Only those who are gullible and naive are encouraged to buy a ticket and check this out.
総評
完全なる失敗作である。劇中で起こるほとんどの出来事の意味が分からない上に、意味のない情報ばかりを次から次へと終わりまで与えられ続ける。これはもうデタラメもいいところの作品である。極めて無邪気な人だけがチケットを買って鑑賞すべきなのだろう。

追記
遼一も弁護士も記憶屋を追うなら綿密に記録を残せ。それぐらいの自衛行為は当たり前だ。『 リピーテッド 』を観ろ。もしくは新城カズマの小説『 サマー／タイム／トラベラー 』を読め。
また記憶屋が仕事をしようがしまいが、遼一のところには警察なり何なりが来るだろう。それとも、この物語世界の警察は無能の集団だから、来ないのだろうか。
エンディングも酷い。『 バタフライ・エフェクト 』を模したつもりだろうか。そんな名作に張り合おうとするよりも前に、まずは『 パラレルワールド・ラブストーリー 』と勝負してはどうか。それでも本作の方が劣るだろう。
